SEWER RATE STRUCTURE

There is no rate increase in effect for AVMA sewer customers for 2008.

In January 2007, a rate increase was implemented to accommodate payment of municipal bond issues totaling approximately $6,500,000.

This debt has been incurred to fund capital projects at the wastewater treatment plant and collection system in response to mandates imposed by the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

These agencies have required AVMA to enter into a “Consent Order & Agreement”, which outlines a costly corrective action plan and provides for penalties if certain milestones are not met.

Major modifications are mandated at both the treatment plant and pumping station.

Current rates are based on water consumption using the following formula:

$30.00 - first 1,000 gallons of water (minimum bill)
$8.00/gallon - each additional 1,000 gallons of water or fraction thereof
