CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

AVMA recently completed a major wastewater treatment plant upgrade project. This project improved the existing 50 year old facility to enable conveyance and treatment of periodic high flows created by excessive infiltration and inflow in the sanitary sewer system.

Infiltration and inflow in older sewer systems is a typical problem and a difficult one to solve. The Plant Upgrade project included the following components:

  • addition of an additional larger capacity pump at the Wanner Pump Station and a new diesel powered emergency generator.
  • enlargement of the existing headworks, where the initial screening and grit removal takes place.
  • construction of a new final settling tank.
  • enlargement of the existing chlorine contact tanks.
  • additional effluent flow metering.
  • elimination of hydraulic bottlenecks in the internal piping and flow division boxes.

This project increased the plant's hydraulic capacity to 2.45 million gallons per day (maximum monthly flow).

All new facilities were completed in late 2007 and the final completion of grading, seeding and paving is anticipated in Spring 2008.
